This can happen for a few different reasons, depending on camera configurations.
1. Are any of your cameras recording only motion detection?
- If you have any cameras setup to record only the motion of an area the required space can fluctuate greatly, especially during events where motion is detected more throughout the day.
- If you suspect that more motion is being detected by a camera, you can check this by going to the playback section of your recorder and checking the motion detection camera.
- Reviewing and Backing Up Footage (All Interfaces)
- If it is indeed detecting more motion you can adjust the sensitivity and threshold settings of the camera. Motion Detection / Video Detection
2. Have cameras been added to the system?
- Even adding a dinger camera doorbell to your NVR will take away from your overall days of recorded footage. Please keep that in mind when adding more cameras to a system as they will require more space on the drive to record.
3. Encode settings.
- Some users may wish for higher frame rates or greater picture bitrates for fidelity and clarity in their camera systems. While most cameras do offer varying bit rates, frame rates, and resolutions, turning up these settings will add more data requirements to be written to a system and cause days to be lost. Verify your encode settings and make sure no one else has tampered with the image settings.
- What do I set the camera encode (video) settings to?
4. Age of the recorder or bad hard drives.
- Unfortunately even the most rugged of equipment can breakdown over time and this is no exception with our systems. If you suspect age or faulty equipment is the cause, please give us a call for further assistance.
