Push notifications are tricky to troubleshoot because there's nothing that outright says where the problems are coming from. It could come from the ICRSS Pro, the mobile device, the video recorder, the network, or the camera. Below is a list of categorized things you can try to fix inconsistencies with push notifications.
ICRSS Pro
- Toggle off push notifications, then turn them back on. This will force a reconnection to the push server.
- Reinstall the application.
Mobile Device
- The phone or tablet has access to both mobile data and Wi-Fi data. You can find these settings in your phone's system settings.
Apple specific
- Set the banner type to persistent. You must tap on the banner from the Notification Center on your Apple device for the notification to appear in the application. If the banner is set to temporary, it will disappear. And the notification along with it.
- Do not dismiss the banners. Dismissing the banners while the app is running in the background will get rid of the notification.
Video Recorder
- IC Realtime recorders have push notifications enabled by default. Ensure no one disabled it by looking at the system services menu. It's nested under the network settings for recorders on the 4.0 system version and in the system settings for recorders on the 3.2 system version. Not all recorders on the 3.2 version will have this menu option.
- Factory reset the recorder if nothing else produces results. There are services that run in the background. Factory defaulting the recorder ensures nothing is wrong with it.
IVS specific
- Default the IVS rules and recreate them. This might fix backend problems specific to IVS.
- Try using iMD instead of IVS. iMD uses motion detection for the event type. If the issue is strictly with IVS, this should get around it.
- Log into the camera directly and go to the IVS menu. Make sure you've enabled the snapshot option. The newer 4.0 UI recorders rely on a snapshot for IVS and iMD to create a notification reliably.
Network
- Try to use DDNS instead of P2P. DDNS requires you to port forward the TCP port for application access. It will create a direct connection to your router instead of connecting to our P2P server. The direct connection can improve reliability.
Apple specific
- Apple uses unique ports for any device connecting to Apple's push servers. You can try forwarding ports 2195-2197 to the recorder.
Camera
- You can try adding the camera to ICRSS Pro directly. This will require them to have an active internet connection, meaning they cannot connect to the recorder's built-in PoE switch. You'll need to add SD cards to the cameras to get video push notifications. Removing the recorder tends to improve consistency.
- Factory reset the camera if nothing else produces results. There are services that run in the background. Factory defaulting the camera ensures nothing is wrong with it.
