Introduction
IVS/ Perimeter Protection rules employ object recognition technology. This applies to the entire scene of the camera when setting up IVS rules. The two most prevalent issues faced when setting up IVS rules are:
- Too many objects in a scene. In cases where the camera view is viewing too many objects (such as cars and people), the IVS rule may not trigger consistently or not at all due to the camera processor being overwhelmed by the number of objects identified. The IVS Intelligence is limited to 50 objects per scene.
- Improper object size/ location. Please be aware of the target size when creating IVS rules. The minimum recommended target size is 50×50 pixels or 80x80 pixels if using a camera with human/ vehicle filtering. This matters when the target object may be too far away from the camera, resulting in a smaller target size than 50x50 or 80x80.
See here for more useful tips when setting up IVS rules.
The example below shows a scene where there are multiple cars in view.
The image below shows the number of objects the camera has identified. Since the camera's AI is picking up cars even at a long distance, there are too many objects on the camera scene for the IVS rules to work correctly.
Recommendations
Too many objects in a scene
- We recommend setting the camera up with fewer objects in view. In the case above, the camera can be pointed down to show only the first row of cars with the fewest objects in view.
- Avoid camera views with constantly moving vegetation or objects in the camera view.
- Avoid camera views with actively populated cars, such as parking lots and roadways.
- If the camera is equipped with one, consider using optical zoom to narrow the field of view in order to lessen the number of objects in view.
- The less complex the environment, the better the results.
Improper object size/ location
- Avoid placing the rules near the edge of the camera views. The objects should appear as a whole within the camera view before it crosses the IVS rule.
- If the camera is equipped with one, consider using optical zoom if the target is too far away (resulting in a small pixel count)
- Confirm the target size is within the recommended pixels(50×50 pixels or 80x80 pixels if using a camera with human/ vehicle filtering) using the Pixel Counter tool on the camera IVS rules interface. This tool measures objects within the camera by pixel when function testing the IVS rules.
