H.265 (HEVC) is a more advanced video compression standard than H.264 (AVC), offering significantly better compression, higher quality at lower bitrates, and support for higher resolutions. However, it can face compatibility issues between different brands, especially in surveillance systems, due to variations in implementation, higher hardware requirements, and more complex licensing.
There are many reasons why someone may want to turn off H.265 and use an older compression such as h.264 such as making the cameras more compatible with a different brand recorder or an older recorder that is not capable of utilizing h.265, or that you may be working with an integration setup that does not support h.265. This guide aims to show how to turn H.265 auto switch on or off depending on your needs.
