In this article we will go over a method to switch main views on a streambox using alarm contacts.
First, you'll need to add the cameras. I personally prefer using RTSP to add them to the streambox using the WebUI to configure and add them.
Once they are added they should look similar to this:
The article for RTSP strings can be found here: RTSP Strings
Wiring Alarm Contacts
Once the cameras have been added successfully, its on to the Streambox.
Have your wiring appear like this, having two leads going out to contact 1 and contact 2 and another on ground.
Programming The Streambox
- Go to the Streambox and navigate to Main Menu -> Display/Tours
Turn on view 1 and 2 but DO NOT enable tour.
Please also set the interval to 5 seconds (this is the minimum we can program it for)
- Next navigate to MD/Alarm and we will set contact number 1.
Enable it and verify the schedule is set for 24hours
Then go to Activation Config
In Activation config enable Tour and click Settings
We are going to set Alarm Contact 1 to react to tour View 1 for simplicity
Do the same thing for Contact 2 but set the Tour to View 2
Troubleshooting and Debugging
For debugging, enable the buzzer so you know you are getting contact on the wires.
The Streambox will then switch between the two displays and you should be able to finish wiring up your button/alarm contact point.
Please keep in mind. Because the tours minimum time limit is 5 seconds it will also take 5 seconds each time before the tour can switch between displays. As far as I know this is intentional and cannot be changed.
Questions
This will be able to just keep a single view up until the button/alarm contact
is closed (after an indeterminant amount of time)?
This setup will allow the client to toggle between the two views for an indefinite amount of time. I am calling it a manual tour.
Essentially you're triggering between two 24 hour tours and each tour is just of
a single view?
Essentially we are setting up a manual tour with the only timer being the 5 second timer that will "hold" the view. But after 5 seconds the tour will open back up, retaining the current view until the client wishes to switch back with the button/alarm contact. Due to the nature of the device, the 5 second timer cannot be lowered any further, it was designed for automated tours.
The 24 hours you are referring to is simply a schedule for the Streambox if someone wanted a more automated alarm setup. We are just telling the Streambox to observe the contacts all the time and not during a set schedule.
Can we setup split views in this manual tour?
Unfortunately no, this feature was not implemented into the device. Only single views can be utilized.
