Many products, both old and new, rely on Active X controllers to display video or web plugins to have full functionality, which requires Internet Explorer to be used. Microsoft is discontinuing support for Internet Explorer. Fortunately, there’s a workaround built into Microsoft Edge. Microsoft has given Edge the ability to run webpages in IE Mode, which will work with Active X plugins and web plugins. The instructions below will outline how to set up and use IE Mode.
Enabling Internet Explorer Mode
- Select the Default Browser setting
- Match the below settings
- Let Internet Explorer open sites in Microsoft Edge - Never
- Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer Mode - Allow
- Add the IP address of the recorder or camera you are trying to access.
Step 3 will look like this.
Next, go to Settings > Appearance and make sure "Internet Explorer mode button" is enabled as shown below.
After these changes are made it will prompt you to restart the browser. After doing so, you can then go to the IP address of the recorder or camera and you will see a bar above the page you can now allow the settings to show up in the toolbar.
Installing The Plugin
- Before you proceed, please ensure your web browser has been enabled following this link:
Enabling Internet Explorer Mode - If not prompted at the login screen, Click the link to install the plugin from the devices web page.
Microsoft Edge in Internet Explorer Mode will prompt you with a weblugin.exe from the IP address you are attempting to access. At this point, you should not be at the Extension store.
- Click Run, once the computer has downloaded the plugin it will attempt to install it to your PC.
- You may be prompted by User Account Control to all this app to make changes. Click Yes. The installer will proceed as normal. Follow the install wizard prompts if necessary and refresh the page. You should now see your camera feeds.
Troubleshooting
- When accessing the camera system. Please ensure your Edge browser is indeed in Internet Explorer Mode. This is indicated by the Internet Explorer icon in the top left corner of the web page. If you do not see this icon, please refer to Enabling Internet Explorer Mode
- In very rare cases, the plugin may not have installed correctly. The install location for this plugin can be accessed from C:\Program Files\webrec\Torch -OR- C:\Program Files (x86)\webrec\Torch
Delete the "webrec" folder and try the install again. Please pause any antivirus software during the installation process.
- Sometimes on much older recorders the webgui login may not show up properly and may prevent you from being able to log in. In these instances, you may also need to enable compatibility view as well.
