Background
Some IP cameras and recorders feature custom audio uploads. Once uploaded, the audio can be played from the camera and recorder speakers (built-in or externally connected) when an event has been triggered.
On an IP camera, you can choose to have the audio played from the built-in speaker or attached line-in speakers (if any are available). To select the audio input/ output sources, go to Setting > Camera > Audio >Audio.
When using a recorder, the audio will be played through powered speakers connected to the Audio Output of the Recorder.
Prerequisites
Depending on the device model, cameras and recorders require the audio files to be set to specific parameters. Devices requiring a .WAV or PCM file, for example, will only accept files with parameters of:
- Sample rate 8k
- 16bit
- File size smaller than 1M.
You can use a program or site to convert audio to the format. For example, https://www.conversion-tool.com/wav/
Setup
1) For IP cameras, log in to the Web UI and go to Setting > Camera > Audio > Alarm Audio.
Click On Add Audio File.
To record a custom audio file, select Record, create a filename, then click the Record Button. The camera will now record any audio from the Microphone on the camera (built-in or line-in). Click Stop to save the recording.
To upload a custom audio file, select Upload, then click on the Folder Icon() to search and select the audio file. Click Upload when finished.
For Recorders, go to Main Menu > Advanced Settings > System Operation > File Management.
Under Type, select Local to save the audio file to the Recorder or Remote to save the audio to the IP Camera.
Click Select Audio File to browse (PC if using web UI or USB if using local UI) and select the audio file (the example below uses MP3 format), then click OK on the bottom to save.
2) Once the audio file is uploaded, the file can be played back when triggered by an event such as Motion Detect, IVS, or Face Recognition.
In the respective event menu, check in Audio Linkage (IPC) or Alarm Tone (Recorder), then select the desired file in the drop-down.
