Introduction and Prerequisite
The Face Recognition feature compares the face image captured with faces added to the face database and can link to an alarm output based on the comparison result. To achieve this, the IC Realtime recorder should support Face Recognition as well as the IP camera (IP camera has Face Database). The only exception to this at the time of writing is the NVR-916NS and the 32MP Elite NVRs (such as NVR-EL16-2U32MP1 or NVR-EL64-2U32MP1) , which is able to achieve face recognition capabilities with cameras that lack face recognition support. If you are configuring via web GUI, you will need to use IE and install the appropriate plugins for that device. HTML5 versions of the web GUI do not support file upload for database.
Note: Once you set this up on the NVR, you do not need to set it up on the IPC Web GUI, although you can add more faces or modify using the IPC Web interface. IPC Setup Instructions here.

1. Enter the Main Menu and click on Advanced Settings, then Alert Center
2. Click Parameters > Smart Plan
3. Select the appropriate channel. Click the Face Recognition icon. It will highlight once enabled. Click Apply to save settings. *Note: If you're using AI by Recorder, the smart plan option will not be available. Instead, you MUST enable Face Detection for the appropriate channel.

Creating a Face Database
1. Enter the Main Menu and click on Advanced Settings, then Alert Center
2. Click Database, then Face Database
3. Under "Type", select "Local" to setup global recorder Face Database (only supported by NVR-916NS) or click on "Remote" (for Face Recognition Supported Cameras) then select the appropriate channel in the drop down.
4. Click "Add" in the bottom right of the screen to add a new database. Enter a name for the Face Database Name and click "OK." The created database will appear in the Face Database list when created successfully.
Adding Faces to the Database
Adding via USB: This requires face images to be added to a USB drive then inserted into the NVR.
1. Enter the Main Menu of the Recorder and click on Advanced Settings, then Alert Center
2. Click Database, then Face Database Config
3. Select the appropriate channel if necessary then click on the database you want to add faces to, then click the "I" icon under details.
4. Click on "Register" and the Register ID prompt will appear. Click the "+" icon to upload a face image.
If configuring through the local GUI, you will get a window displaying the contents of the USB inserted into the recorder. If configuring via web GUI, a window will appear to browse your local computer files for the images.
Use the Register ID window to add additional information to this face entry, including Name and gender, etc. Click "Ok" when finished. A message will confirm a successful face addition and the added face will appear in the face database.
You can also upload multiple face images by clicking "Batch Register." When using Batch register, you can name the pictures in the following format to include the information when importing to the database:
"[Name]#S[Gender]#B[Date of Birth]#T[Type of Credentials]#M[ID Number]"
5. Use the Register ID window to add additional information to this face entry, including Name and gender, etc. Click "Ok" when finished. A message will confirm a successful face addition and the added face will appear in the face database.
